Tales from the Jail Tuesday
some readers asked, so I respond!
I met Lowell in court one afternoon. He was a capias set aside case, meaning, he didn't show up for court when summoned, but he knew to call the public defenders, who just so happened to put him on that afternoon's docket.
In these cases, yes, he could have been taken to jail; however, this doesn't usually happen with level 5 (lowest) degree felonies. His case is theft....a fact that is important later.
I told Lowell to report to my office immediately after the public defender had him sign the papers clearing his warrant. a.t.t.i.t.u.d.e. (oh great)
He did report to my office, and was all peeyourpants hyper. I complete the pretrial interview (remember, my clients are NOT convicted and in pretrial supervision the presumption of innocecnse is held). then, we discuss the contract. Lowell is on telephone reporting with drug screens. (go figure that one out...drug screens are done At. My. Office...but he can just C.a.l.l. in. hmmm). I tell Lowell we'll make a copy of the contract and he'll be on his way out.
Lowell responds, "oh, Ms. lastname, you don't have to give me one of those, I ain't going to be jaywalking, spitting on the sidewalk, nothing. I know what I got to do and what I got not to do." He then proceeds to leave the office area, out the door, leaving me with the contract and his file.
19 hours later, Suburbville police department calls to let me know that Lowell is arrested for.....theft.
Apparently the no jaywalking, spitting on the sidewalk, nothing did not include stealing.
Oh, and that whole phone reporting, isn't working too well. Haven't heard from him or been able to contact him for two weeks. and he is not still in jail.
Go Lowell!

missing scrapper alert
She was also a first fan of Jillibean Soup and made a fab clock with this paper:
She has more of these than anyone will ever need to scrap with:
She lets me use her cricut and I still owe her a mat and blade (or two)
Saw this movie with me, and we agree, Bond should never sing
Has been to my homeland:
Is a fan of:
and will most likely be found eating these:

And it's her BIRTHDAY!!! Happy Birthday TO YOU!
Oh Where Oh Where are you D? I miss you!

Worthwhile Cause Wednesday!
First, I have a team in MN walking in this year's MS Walk on May 3. For donations to the MS Society, please go here today: Jana's Site.
Second, I am very excited to be a part of March for Babies with my local scrapbooking organization Columbusscrappers.org on April 26. Contributing to my walk online is fast, easy and secure. To donate today, please go here: Jana's Site.
____________________
See why I'm torn: two great causes and two great places you can make a difference! The choice is yours: 1 donation or 2, but really...how can you decide?!?!? Split the donation you'd give, support both and you've really done well! (and for bonus points in life, ask family and friends for their support too!)
Thanks!!! Look for update posts with pics and stats from the day!

Tales from the Jail Tuesday! and a prayer!
Please be praying for Stellan, who is in surgery to fix his too fast heart in Boston.

Here's one for you:
Office Visit note from 4/2/2009
-Address and phone are correct
- Deft. failed to bring his percocet prescription and denies using cocaine or heroin. Deft. says he eats poppy seeds and this is what caused the positive screen. Told Deft. that was ridiculous. He would have to eat HANDFULS of poppy seeds to test positive.
- court con't to 4/*
- drug screen today. Deft. continued with the poppy seeds story. Told him to stop using cocaine. I offered the Deft. drug treatment referrals but he insists he does not use drugs and continued to blame the poppy seeds.
- still not working due to his recent surgeries. and mrsa.
- next Ov 4/* after court.
Office Visit note from 4/9/2009
Deft at the same address (**)
Deft has the same phone number (**)
Deft is not currently working due to surgery
Deft provided his prescription bottle for Percocet
However, the date filled on the bottle read "01/*/07"; there was no refills available for this prescription bottle.
Instructed Deft to bring in a current bottle that shows a much more recent date and he states he must have just "grabbed the wrong bottle. I asked him how many empty bottles he just "has laying around" and he didn't know; Deft claims he is on these pills permanently due to Rheumatoid Arthritis (Deft agreed to bring in the current bottle to the next office visit)
Next court date is 04/*/09 for Sentencing.
D instructed to OV next after court no urine screen, too late as lab is closed
Basically, he must really love poppy seeds in order to keep on testing dirty. well, that, or cocaine

Rainy Days and Mondays
This song by the Carpenter's pretty much sums up my attitude today. Don't worry, I'm working to get that changed. [Although, can't really fix the rainy day or the Monday part of today.]
Rainy Days and Mondays, by The Carpenters
Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me.
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
What song sums up your day today!??!

Tales from the Jail Tuesday
okay, okay, I know this is probably one of your favorite types of posts I do....but, really, nothing has been happening! well, okay, besides the client who blew .06 on St. Patricks day, the client who jumped off a bridge and is in a coma, or the client who always asks if I am 36 years old. here's a few....to entertain I suppose!
We call to verify defendant's living/working stuff before they go to court. A return call usually NEVER gives us anything we need, ALWAYS comes days late, and is usually ONLY people who sound like they are talking with their mouths FULL!
On this day.....Amy calls to verify the info for Bruce. Amy says "Hi, this is Amy, calling to verify for Bruce, you talked to him today. And, no he doesn't live here. We been seperated for about 8 months and trufully, I'm tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired of him. okay, that's all, bye." Sorry Bruce, Amy say No!
On another day.....after telling the group of women inmates why we're there and what we DO and DO NOT talk about....and that the goal is for them to answer our questions, and then see if we missed anything/they have anything to add.
Miranda sits down and the first thing she says is "i ain't even supposed to be here, I'm supposed to be in Netcare!" (netcare is a drug/mental health programming site). My co-worker tells her that we can't do anythign about that, and that she needs to go to court for her felony possession of drug case. Miranda throws a fit! She does not settle down, turns on the tears, and insists that the police have her in the wrong spot! (umm no, you didn't show at court and when a warrant is issued, you go to jail. where you are. now.) We finally get her calm and then she proceeds to tell the jail deputy that she will miss her appointment and the jail needs to let her go to it! The deputy says "since you're in jail, you won't be going and you will have to reschedule." (I love how matter-of-fact the deps are!) Poor Miranda....you might not even be getting out tomorrow, your information is not verified! Better luck next time!
I was seeing a client today for my supervisor (lucky, he's on vacay!) I call his name in the lobby and he gets up, comes towards me, and leaves his WALKMAN and FUGLY coat on the chair. I say "I wouldn't leave my stuff...you can't trust these guys." He says, "it'll be okay, nothings in my coat." (ummm it's a probation lobby, people steal, prolly not..) When we return to the lobby, his circa. 1992 walkman is missing and he curses. I warned ya buddy!
So, you may, or may not, find these stories amusing/disheartening/upsetting, but that's a little piece of my life as a PO. Stay tuned for more! (now, if I could only blog about Tales from the Office about my co-workers...there's a couple doosies for ya, but I'd rather not go there...)

my not me monday
Please Pray for the MCKFamily MckMama isn't doing a not me Monday, but its okay, she has a lot more important things going on with little Stellan.....so will you pray for him too?
1. I did not use my phone calculator to figure out how many days DH and I have been together in 10 years. And I did not tell our friends to shut-up when they began laughingat with me. Then we did not laugh at with DH when he asked "what did you get that for" after our friend said he "got a speeding ticket." I love them people, are OH friends.
2. I did not print out 110 photos out of the 340 we did not take on our 5 day vacation. I have not cut them into 2x3 and 3x4 and 4x6 to scrapbook. Not already!
3. Bear has not been audible in his dreaming the last two nights; he has not made us laugh with his whimpers, whines, groan, and barks. yes, barks while dreaming. he then does not give us the "stink eye" when we wake him up and he definately does not look like he has no idea what is going on!
4. I have not been good about going to the gym, in fact i don't even like the classes i've not been attending.
5. The guys at the jail have the freshest, most bestest smelling breath there is; i never ever gag while at the jail.
6. My clients do not come to my office smelling of cheap fried chicken; and I do not proceed to spray air freshener a bajzillion times a day just to not gag.
So, what did you not do this week? have a good one!
